2021: Young Arts: Arts Bags

Pat Lock, who is our Young Arts representative, is investigating a new idea, shared by one of the Kent Area societies. It is to donate bags of arts materials to help families who use local foodbanks. We have contacted our local service and they are very keen for us to be involved. We have now completed making up 100 art bags containing plain/coloured paper, colouring pencils, wax crayons, sharpeners & erasers suitable for primary school age children. They have now been delivered to our local foodbank distribution centre who will then add them to food boxes for local families.

If you are interested in making any small financial donation to help us get this going, we would appreciate it. Get in touch with Pat – she would appreciate this. We do set aside funds to support young people – but additional donations are always welcome. We will keep you informed on progress.

2019 38th and 40th Strood Sea Scout Group

The proposal is to create a series of leaf images and hazel sculptures in the woodland of Buckmore Park Scout Camp Site and Activity Centre. The works will be recorded digitally and remain preserved and shared in that manner while the physical works will exist within the woodland to be discovered by chance and to return to nature over time.

The work will be displayed on the Scout Group web site and the Medway Towns Scout District web site but could also be replicated on other sites.

The project will be delivered by Cub Scouts (aged 8 to 10 years) assisted by their adult leaders, and Explorer Scouts (aged 14 to 18 years) and their leaders. The project is expected to be delivered in one day; however, a second day will be held in reserve.

2019 West Kent Guides

The West Kent Girl Guide organiser requested funding for some Pyrography Equipment. This is basically ‘woodcraft’ which apparently is very popular with the Guides when they stay on their Regional Activity Centres. At present they have to borrow/mix and match equipment . The work will go towards craft badges.

2018 Young Voices

With over 22 concerts across the nation young children performed where artists like Katy Perry, Beyoncé, Take That, and many more have performed.

Young Voices has been going to The O2 Arena in London since it opened 10 years ago! The O2 Arena is the world's busiest music arena, even surpassing New York City's Madison Square Garden. Last year Young Voices were awarded the 'Key to The O2' for having 21 performances at the arena. An honour only given to 4 other artists: Take That, One Direction, Prince, and Michael Mcintyre!

The Arts Society Medway awarded the 2018 Bursary to All Faith's Academy, Strood, to enable the Year 6 pupils to take part.

Art Department of Holcombe Grammar School

The 2017 £250 NADFAS Bursary was awarded to Holcombe Grammar School Art Department. Ruby Mourino the Art Teacher at the school liaised with Jeremy Clark to organise a project to celebrate The Dutch Invasion of the Medway. This theme was suggested by myself.

The Art Department hired in a PRINT Artist:Xtina Lamb from Intraarts. com . Xtina showed myself and about 16 boys ( mainly from year 7) how to produce prints using Artefacts which had been located from the River Medway in the Upnor Region.A wonderful set of prints were produced and these will be displayed at the Rochester Guildhall Museum on May 6th in the big Exhibition  being put on there to celebrate The Dutch Invasion 500 years ago. Everybody enjoyed the 2 hour workshop and some excellent work was produced .
